Craig, May (c. 1889–1972)
Irish actress. Born in Dublin, Ireland, around 1889; died in a Dublin nursing home on February 8, 1972; married Vincent Power-Fardy (an American), around 1916 (died 1930); children: five.
May Craig appeared in the original production of John Millington Synge's The Playboy of the Western World in 1907. She joined the Abbey Theatre in 1916, remained with the company for the rest of her life, and made six U.S. tours. After her husband died in 1930, Craig raised five young children on her own. She is best remembered for roles as Mrs. Tancred in Sean O'Casey's Juno and the Paycock and Mrs. Henderson in William Butler Yates' drama about Jonathan Swift, The Words upon the Windowpane.
