Christina of Holstein-Gottorp (1573–1625)
Queen of Sweden. Born on April 13, 1573; died on December 8, 1625; daughter of Adolf (1526–1586), duke of Holstein-Gottorp (r. 1544–1586), and Christine of Hesse (1543–1604); became second wife of Charles IX (1550–1611), king of Sweden (r. 1604–1611), on August 27, 1592; grandmother of Christina of Sweden ; children: Gustavus Adolphus II (1594–1632), king of Sweden (r. 1611–1632, who married Maria Eleonora of Brandenburg ); Marie Elizabeth (1596–1618, who married John, duke of East Gotland); Charles Philip, duke of Sodermannland (b. 1601). Charles IX's first wife was Anna Maria of the Palatinate (1561–1589).
