Japanese royal concubine. Name variations: Nakayama Yoshiko; sometimes referred to as Komei empress and empress dowager. Born in 1834; died in 1907; dau. of Nakayama Tadayasu (1809–1888, the great counselor or dainagon); concubine of Komei, emperor of Japan (r. 1847–1866, originally Osahito); children: at least 2 sons, including Mutsuhito (1852–1912), emperor of Japan (r. 1867–1912).
