Whitney, Ruth (1928–1999)
American journalist and magazine editor. Born July 23, 1928, in Oshkosh, WI; died of Lou Gehrig's disease in Irvington, NY, June 4, 1999; dau. of Leonard and Helen Reinke; graduate of Northwestern University; m. Daniel Whitney, 1949; children: Philip Whitney.
Served as editor in chief of Glamour for 31 years, regularly publishing thought-provoking articles; changed the annual college competition from the best dressed to the most accomplished.
