East German track-and-field champion. Name variations: Renate Meissner or Stecher-Meissner. Born Renate Meissner, May 12, 1950, in S&u5>ptitz, East Germany; m. Gerd Stecher (a hurdler).

Top international sprinter, went undefeated in the 100 and 200 meters (1970–74); won 100 and 200 meters at European championships (1971); won gold medals for the 100 and 200 meters and 4 × 100-meter relay at Munich Olympics (1972); won silver medals for the 100 meters and 4 × 100-meter relay and a bronze for the 200 meters at Montreal Olympics (1976); ran the first sub-11-second 100 meters ever (1973).
