German marathon runner. Born Sept 7, 1965, in Leipzig, then East Germany; grew up outside Berlin.
Moved to Stuttgart (1989), then won the Unification Marathon in Berlin (1990); became the 1st woman to win 3 consecutive Boston Marathons (1994, 1995, 1996); won New York Marathon (1993), Berlin Marathon (1990, 1992, 1995), and Tokyo Marathon (1994–95). Voted Runner of the Year (1995, 1996).
