Nicol, Helen Lyster (1854–1932)

New Zealand suffragist and temperance reformer. Born May 29, 1854, in Edinburgh, Scotland; died Nov 22, 1932, in Dunedin, New Zealand; dau. of David Nicol and Margaret Cairns (Smith) Nicol.

Active in several temperance unions, including New Zealand Women's Christian Temperance Union; also argued for women's rights, pioneering suffrage efforts in Dunedin; helped to found Women's Franchise League (1892); affiliated with National Council of Women of New Zealand.
