Ordained deacon (June 1980), then priest (Dec 1980); became 1st woman Episcopal Diocesan bishop in US (1993), serving as Bishop of Vermont (1993–2001); also the 2nd woman bishop elected in the world; was vocal and supportive of the gay and lesbian community in Vermont and backed same sex unions.
