Mclntyre, Kalaparusha Maurice (Benf ord; aka Difda, Kalaparucha Abrah), tenor saxophonist, clarinetist; b. Clarksville, Ark., March 24, 1936. His family moved to Chicago when he was very young. He began playing drums at seven; he studied at the Chicago Music Coll., and performed and studied with J. Gilmore, Dave Young, Nicky Hill, Ken Chaney, Roscoe Mitchell, and Ollie Mabin. He joined R. Abrams’s Experimental Band, BACM, worked with Anthony Brax-ton, percussionist Ajaramu, guitarist J. B. Hutto, and Little Milton. He was a founding participant of the A ACM in 1965. He took the name Kalaparusha, moved to N.Y. and began playing with Warren Smith. He worked in both Chicago and N.Y. during the 1970s and 1980s, playing with Jerome Cooper, Warren Smith, Sonelius Smith, and Wilber Morris.
