American colonial. Flourished c. 1639 in Plymouth, MA.

The 1st woman forced to wear a prominent mark on her clothing for a sexual offense, was convicted of "dallyance" with a Native American (1639) and sentenced to be publicly whipped and wear a badge of shame on her left sleeve.
