Laws, Annie (1855–1927)

American educational activist. Born Jan 20, 1855, in Cincinnati, Ohio; died July 1, 1927, in Cincinnati; dau. of James Hedding Laws and Sarah Amelia (Langdon) Laws.

Organized (1889) and served as president of Cincinnati Training School for Nurses (later College of Nursing and Health of the University of Cincinnati); was president of Cincinnati Kindergarten Association (1891–92, 1901–27); was chair of Committee of Nineteen, influential in issues regarding contemporary kindergarten; was 1st female member of Cincinnati Board of Education (1912–16); was a founder (1894) and 1st president of Cincinnati Woman's Club.
