Laws of Attraction ★★ 2004 (PG-13)

Powerhouse New York divorce lawyers Daniel (Brosnan) and Audrey (Moore) fight for their opposing clients and against their growing attraction to each other in this formulaic romantic comedy that attempts to recall classic Hollywood screwballs. The case between fashion designer Posey and rock star Sheen allows them to engage in the kind of witty banter, bickering, and heated sparring that everyone knows will eventually lead to the bedroom. The brief, drunken romp leaves them both in emotional denial until one of the disputed assets in the case, an Irish castle, forces the two to travel to the quaint country where they proceed to get drunk (again) and married. The two leads provide plenty of chemistry and charm despite a wafer thin premise, stale scripting and characterization, and weak direction. 89m/C DVD . Pierce Brosnan, Julianne Moore, Michael Sheen, Parker Posey, Frances Fisher, Nora Dunn, Allan Houston, Vincent Marzello, Mina (Badiyi) Badie; D: Peter Howitt; W: Aline Brosh McKenna, Robert Harling; C: Adrian Biddle; M: Ed Shearmur.
