American industrial inventor. Name variations: Mattie Knight. Born Feb 14, 1838, in York, Maine; died Oct 12, 1914, in Framingham, MA; dau. of James Knight and Hannah (Teal) Knight; raised in Manchester, NH, but lived most of adult life in Framingham; mostly self taught; never married.

Industrial inventor with at least 23 patents for diverse products including window frames, improvements in engines, machines for cutting shoe soles, and machinery for folding and gluing square-bottomed paper bags.
