Worked as a teacher and social-welfare worker; served as vice principal at Los Angeles High School (1902–13); appointed assistant superintendent of the LA school system (1913) and superintendent (1920); to honor her 40 years in education, named honorary life president, National Education Association (1934). Susan Miller Dorsey High School (Los Angeles, CA) and Susan Miller Dorsey Hall at Scripps College (Claremont, CA) named in her honor.
