Australian author and adventurer. Born 1950 on a cattle station in Queensland, Australia; lived with Salmon Rushdie and Narendra Bhati (prince).
Worked as a waitress in Alice Springs, Australia, to buy camels (1977); published Tracks, an account of her 1,700-mile journey across the Australian desert with four camels, which won the Thomas Cook Travel Book award (1980); also wrote essays Travelling Light, the novel Ancestors (1989), and Desert Places, the story of her travels with the Robari, nomads of northwestern India (1996).
