French entrepreneur. Name variations: Barbe-Nicole Clicquot-Ponsardin; the Widow Clicquot. Born Barbe Nicole Ponsardin in 1777; died in 1866; dau. of Baron Ponsardin; m. François Clicquot (died); great-grandmother of Anne, Duchesse d'Uzes.
Widowed early, turned an inherited winery into the producer of the world's leading brand of Champagne, "Veuve Clicquot."
