Made stage debut in Improper Peter (1912), followed by The Little Café, Peter Pan, A Dear Little Lady, The Circle, Quarantine, Benediction, Conflict, This Money Business, Elizabeth of Austria, Nine Til Six and Pygmalion; on death of father, became proprietor of the Prince of Wales's Theatre until 1935; made over 30 films, including Derby Day, Spitfire, The Last Waltz, Lilies of the Field, Mannequin and Lucky Girl.
