Bauer, Sybil (1903–1927)
American swimmer. Born Sept 18, 1903, in Chicago, Illinois; died Jan 31, 1927; attended Northwestern University.
At Paris Olympics, won a gold medal in the 100-meter backstroke (1924); won 11 US national championships and held world records in every backstroke distance. Was engaged to marry Ed Sullivan, then a Chicago sportswriter who late became a tv host, but died of cancer at 23.
