Worked under Theodore Komisarjevsky; began to play leading roles for Meyerhold in Theatre Workshop (1920); later worked with A. Dikie at Moscow Art Theatre where she became leading actress; notable performances include Pauline in Ostrovsky's Place of Profit (1922), Juliet in Popov's Romeo and Juliet, and the heroine in Arbuzov's Tanya, for which she received Stalin Prize (1941); films include Starets Vasili Gryaznov (1924) and Odna (1931).
