Babbi, Gregorio (Lorenzo)
Babbi, Gregorio (Lorenzo), famous Italian tenor, father of (Pietro Giovanni) Cristoforo (Bartolomeo Gasparre) Babbi; b. Cesena, Nov. 16, 1708; d. there, Jan. 2, 1768. He made his operatic debut in Florence in 1730. In 1741 he entered the service of Charles III, King of Naples, and in 1748 he was engaged by the Teatro San Carlo of Naples, where his wife, Giovanna Guaetta, was also a singer. He was pensioned in 1759.
