Biblical woman. Name variations: Abigal. Flourished around 1010 bce (chronology of the Old Testament is based on textual and archaeological evidence and cannot be exactly pinpointed); daughter of Jesse of Bethlehem; sister of David (r. 1010–970 bce); married Jether (an Ishmaelite); children: Amasa.

Abigail was the sister of King David who ruled Judah and Israel from about 1010 to about 970 bce, capturing Jerusalem in about the year 1000. She was the mother of Amasa who commanded the army of Absalom.
