This maneuver, applied in the direction of the birth canal, is called Crede's method. Also, he developed a method for removing urine through a flaccid bladder, one without muscle tone. However, his best known contribution is the application of 1% silver nitrate into the eyes of newborns to prevent blindness in the baby if the mother had gonorrhea.
