John Edensor Littlewood

1885-1977

English mathematician who, in collaboration with G. H. Hardy, produced an acclaimed body of work, including contributions to pure mathematics and the theory of series and functions. Littlewood became a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1915 and received the organization's Royal Medal (1929), Sylvester Medal (1943), and Copley Medal (1958).
