Bernard Siegfried Albinus

1697-1770

German anatomist and physician who first demonstrated that the vascular systems of mother and fetus are connected. Albinus became chair of the departments of anatomy, surgery, and medicine at the University of Leiden, Holland, in 1702. He is remembered for his drawings of the human muscular and skeletal systems and for co-editing the works of Vesalius and William Harvey.
