1831-1917

English explorer and Arabian horse breeder. Blunt was the granddaughter of the poet Lord Byron. Although she was an accomplished artist and chess player, Blunt's real love was the outdoors. In 1869 she married Wilfrid Blunt, a diplomat, and the couple made several trips to the Middle East. At the end of one expedition, they brought back Arabian horses and began to breed them at her home, Crabbet Park. Blunt also bred salukis, native Arabian dogs. She spent her final years in Egypt, and was buried there soon after her eightieth birthday.
