Terminalia (family Combretaceae) A genus of large, often deciduous or semi-deciduous trees, which have distinctive, tiered branching, and the leaves held in terminal clusters. The flowers are held in panicles or spikes, and are apetalous, with 10 stamens, and a disc present. The fruits are woody, and sometimes winged. The trees yield useful timber, and some are used for dyeing and tanning (see MYROBALAN). A few have edible fruits. There are about 150 species, occurring throughout the tropics.
