Hidden in a southern swamp, the evil Grimes (von Seyfferttz) runs a baby farm, where unwanted children are sent and used a slave labor. The eldest, nicknamed Mama Mollie (Pickford), tries to protect the others from Grimes's cruelty. They eventually plan their escape but must cross treacherous quicksand with Grimes in pursuit.
