southerly burster
southerly burster A regional wind in southern and south-eastern Australia, which is characterized by a rapid shift in direction from north-west to south in the rear of a cold front. Such winds are especially prevalent between October and March. The change to a southerly wind can bring a great increase in wind speed accompanied by a rapid and marked fall in temperature. Such conditions are akin to line squalls, and are related to the South American pamperos.
