The Serpukhovian is preceded by the Visean, followed by the Bashkirian (Pennsylvanian), and dated at 332.9–322.8 Ma ( Harland et al., 1989).
2. The name of the corresponding eastern European series, which is roughly contemporaneous with the upper Chesterian (N. America) and Namurian A (western Europe).
