pi diagram
pi diagram A stereographic projection, used in the analysis of the orientation of folds, in which poles (points representing lines) perpendicular to folded bedding (π poles) are plotted, and the diagram rotated on an overlay to achieve a best-fit great circle (a π circle). A pole to the plane of the π circle plane records the plunge and trend of the fold axis.
