Oriental faunal region
Oriental faunal region The area that encompasses India and Asia south of the Himalayan–Tibetan mountain barrier, and the Australasian archipelago, excluding New Guinea and the Sulawesi. There are marked similarities with the Ethiopian faunal region (e.g. both have elephants and rhinoceroses) but there are endemic (see endemism) groups (e.g. pandas and gibbons).
