Xantusiidae
Xantusiidae (night lizards; order Squamata, suborder Sauria) A family of nocturnal, insectivorous lizards in which the eye is geckolike, with a vertical pupil and spectacle. Some species are viviparous with a placental-type development. There are 12 species, occurring in Central America and the south-western USA.
