Mystacinidae (order Chiroptera, suborder Microchiroptera) A monospecific family (Mystacina tuberculata), of omnivorous bats that have thick fur, talons on all claws, and wings which tuck into pockets when the animals are at rest. Mystacinid bats are very active on the ground and may feed there on insects, fruit, pollen, flowers, and possibly on carrion. The ears are simple, long, and well developed. The nose is simple. The species is found only in New Zealand.
