Gonystylus
Gonystylus (family Thymelaeaceae) A genus of trees whose bark contains silky, irritant fibres. The leaves are dotted with glands. The flowers have 5 sepals, no petals, a disc, many stamens, and a superior ovary. The fruit is a capsule, the seeds arillate. The trees yield a pale, useful timber. G. bancanus provides ramin, much used for mouldings. There are about 20 species, found in rain forests of the permanently wet parts of Asia and the Pacific, from Malesia to the Solomons and Fiji.
