archaic sapiens Humans (i.e. Homo sapiens) that share features with earlier (non-Homo) species, relating mainly to cranial capacity and the robustness of the teeth and skeleton, that are lost in anatomically modern humans. The archaic species are classified as Homo sapiens, but not as belonging to the subspecies of modern humans, Homo sapiens sapiens.
