VOET, ANDRIES

VOET, ANDRIES (1907–1982) U.S. physical chemist. Born in Amsterdam, Voet was chief chemist at an inks works in Hilversum until he went to the U.S. He joined the General Printing Ink Corporation and then (from 1943) the J.M. Huber Corporation in Borger, Texas, heading their physical research from 1950. He was a consultant to the U.S. Industrial Intelligence Agency in Germany (1945). Voet was an authority on the theory and practical applications of printing inks, carbon black, pigments, resins and their reactions with the surfaces on which these are imprinted. He took out over one hundred patents. His book Ink and Paper in the Printing Process (1952) is a classic in this field.
