OTTO OF CAPPENBERG, BL.

Premonstratensian; d. Feb. 23, 1171. The sons of Count Godfrey of Cappenberg and Beatrice, Otto and his brother Bl. Godfrey of Cappenberg, a devout layman, gave their ancestral lands to norbert of xanten for the foundation of the first abbey of premonstratensian

canons in Germany in 1122. Otto entered the community and served as the fourth prior of Cappenberg Abbey from 1156 until his death. Godfrey died (1127) at Ilbenstadt Abbey, which he had founded, and Otto had some of his relics brought back to Cappenberg.
