LÉVY, ARTHUR

LÉVY, ARTHUR (1847–1931), French historian. Born in Nancy, Lévy was a businessman but turned to writing history because of his interest in Napoleon. His first book, Napoléonintime (2 vols., 1893; The Private Life of Napoleon, 1894), was based on hitherto unpublished documents relating to Napoleon. His other books included Napoléon et la paix (1902), and Histoires intimes du temps du ler Empire: Napoléon et Eugénie de Beauharnais (1926).
