LEVENE, SIR PETER (Keith), BARON LEVENE OF PORTSOKEN
LEVENE, SIR PETER (Keith ), BARON LEVENE OF PORTSOKEN (1941– ), British businessman, civil servant, and lord mayor. Levene was managing director of United Scientific Holdings Ltd. from 1968 to 1985 before joining the administrative civil service as chief of defense procurement in the Ministry of Defense from 1985 to 1991. He then became chairman of Canary Wharf Ltd., the vast redevelopment of London's derelict Docklands area and, in 1998–99, was lord mayor of London. He was knighted in 1989 and received a life peerage in 1997.
