LEONE, LEON (Judah) DI
LEONE, LEON (Judah ) DI (d. 1830), rabbi in Italy. Leone went to Europe from Ereẓ Israel as an emissary of the Hebroncommunity and in 1795 was elected rabbi of Rome. In 1796 he joined other rabbis in Italy in writing a protest against statements current in France and Germany that radical religious reforms were being introduced in the Italian Jewish communities. When the community in Rome was reorganized on the French pattern in 1811, Leone became chairman of the consistory.
