KATZENELSON, YOSEF
KATZENELSON, YOSEF (1896–1940), *Revisionist leader. Born in Bobruisk, Belorussia, Katzenelson went to Palestine in 1924. He was active in the Revisionist movement in Palestine and the *Irgun Ẓeva'i Le'ummi. In 1938 he was sent on a mission to Europe where he headed the "illegal" immigration operations of the New Zionist Organization until the outbreak of World War ii. In January 1940, he fell ill and died in Nazi-occupied Warsaw. His remains were brought to Jerusalem in 1957.
