HADELOGA, ST.

Virgin, monastic foundress (a.k.a. Adeloga, Hadelauga, Halloie); d. Kitzingen (Upper Bavaria), Germany, c. 750. According to a 12th-century vita and laudatio replete with legend, Hadeloga was the daughter of charles martel. When about to be forced into marriage, she fled from court and founded a double monastery (745?) at Kitzingen in Franconia. St. boniface, who had allegedly inspired Hadeloga's vocation, kept in touch with the foundation; Charles Martel, once reconciled with his daughter, richly endowed it. Hadeloga enjoyed the regard of the whole countryside for her care of the poor. Her body is interred in the church of St. Mary in Kitzingen. Her monastery was secularized in 1544.

Feast: Feb. 2, March 20.
