BURDEN, EDWARD, BL.
Priest, martyr; b. ca. 1540 in Co. Durham, England;d. Nov. 29, 1588, hanged, drawn, and quartered at York, England. He studied at Trinity College, Oxford, before completing his theological studies on the Continent. He was ordained (1584) at Douai and returned to England in 1586 to work in Yorkshire. He was condemned for his priesthood and suffered with Fr. John hewett. Burden was beatified by Pope John Paul II on Nov. 22, 1987 with George Haydock and Companions.
