ALVAREZ, ALFRED

ALVAREZ, ALFRED (1929– ), British poet, critic, and writer. Educated at Oxford University, Alvarez served as an editor on the Observer newspaper, and has written many well-regarded works of poetry, among them his collected Poems (1978) and Day of Atonement (1991), which explore the interaction of public and private forces on individual behavior. Alvarez has also written many works of criticism and non-fiction, as well as an autobiography, Where Did It All Go Right? (1999).
