God, names of among Sikhs
God, names of among Sikhs. The Name (Nām) of God has particular importance for Sikhs. Many names are used for God, some familiar to Hindus (e.g. Hari, Śiv, Brahmā, Rām, Mohan) and others to Muslims (e.g. Rabb, Allāh, Khudā, Sāhib). Above all God's name is Truth (sat(i)nām). He is the Sat(i)gurū by whose grace the way of salvation from rebirths is revealed. By the Gurū's grace and by devoted repetition of God's name (nām simaran) he can be realized.
