Eight Trigram Society
Eight Trigram Society. A general designation for various religious sects which staged a rebellion in N. China in 1813. The sects, which were closely related to the millennarian White Lotus tradition, were galvanized into revolt by their belief that the millennium had arrived. See further BOXER REBELLION.
