Daishi
Daishi (Jap., ‘great death’). In Zen Buddhism, the death of (or to) the differentiated self, which leads to profound enlightenment (daigotettei). This is called ‘the death on the mat’ (zagu), the consequence of undertaking the Zen way which the zagu epitomizes.
