Chhant (Pañjābī, ‘poem, song’). In the Ādi Granth, the chhants are hymns between a chaupad and an aṣṭapadī in length, i.e. usually four stanzas of six lines. Within each rāg the chhants follow the aṣṭapadīs and precede the vārs.
