Chhatisgarh
Chhatisgarh State in central India; the capital is Raipur. A landlocked state, Chhatisgarh is bordered by its fellow states of Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Orissa, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. In 2000 Chhatisgarh was carved out of India's largest state of Madhya Pradesh. Known as the ‘Rice Bowl of India’, 80% of state population work in agriculture. Area: 135,191sq km (sq mi) Pop. (2001) 20,795,956.
