Joannes Stobaeus (jōăn´ēz stōbē´əs), fl. 5th cent.? AD, Greek anthologist. He made a large collection of excerpts from poets and prose writers on a variety of subjects, originally for the education of his son. The collection is valuable because it preserves fragments from many since lost works of early Greek authors. It came to be divided into two parts, called Eclogues and Anthology.
